Back in the mid 90s I got DJ Muro’s King of Diggin’ mixtape and it blew my mind – it was a mix of rare original samples that had been sampled on hip hop records using only original pressings – no compilations, no bootlegs. This was back when there was no internet, no youtube, no whosampled, so the effort put in to get these records was pretty astounding.
What I’ve done is a tribute to Muro’s tapes and others like it from Kon & Amir and Ken Sport where I mix up original samples (and some unused gems) that I’ve found over the years from scouring through car boot sales, charity shops and thrift stores worldwide. Expect to hear the originals from people like MF Doom, Kanye, De La, 9th Wonder and so much more… here it is – Car Boot Adventures aka Oxfam Jams aka Chazza Shop Gold!

Roy Ayers is doing shows in the UK in December (details here) and to mark the occasion I picked out a few of my favourite rap records that have used samples from his records and productions. This is an off the cuff and live mix and isn’t definitive by any stretch but it’s all good fun.

Here’s another great mix from Who Sampled’s Chris Read, this time marking 20 years since the release of A Tribe Called Quest’s classic long player Midnight Marauders. Now they need to do one for Wu…
Once again Chris Read has come up with the goods with this mix breaking down Souls of Mischief’s debut long player 93 Til Infinity down to the originals. Check the WhoSampled blog for the full track list…
Also you can check this recording from 2002 of Souls of Mischief live at Off The Hook.

DJ Moneyshot once again comes up with a winner with this mix for Solid Steel radio breaking down quite possibly the best rap album of all time It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back. STRONGLY RECOMMENDED.
Check out the Soundcloud for the full track list. “I guarantee you, no more music by the suckers…”
I got together recently with my dear friend J Squared to do a special podcast for Breakin Bread where we basically went in and played a load of records – things we like from all genres. Music from Organized Konfusion, Solange, Adrian Younge, Graham Nash, Jay-Z… there’s over 70 tracks on here! This was so much fun to do and hopefully you’ll enjoy listening to this as much as we enjoyed making it.
Big, big shout out to Skeg, Steve The Sleeve and the Breakin Bread fam (who are going to be celebrating their 15th year in October – click for details) and of course J Squared – we definitely kept it one hundo on this!
The full track list is available on Mixcloud and on the podcast info on iTunes.

After the excitement of finally getting to see A Tribe Called Quest last weekend I thought this would be good to put up – a recording of Tribe from when they last did shows in London from 1994, courtesy of Flip The Script.
