Sigma: “79” – DJ Sigma’s mix of rap from 1979

Hip Hop was 38 years old this week so I’m posting up this mix from Sigma to mark the occasion. Also check out this interview with Coke La Rock, Kool Herc’s MC, that’s on egotripland.

This is a multitracked mix of hip-hop from 1979, the year that the first hip-hop track came out. My intention here was to feature every hip-hop track released in 1979 and I’ve come pretty close to doing that, although there may be some debate over the year of release of one or two of these songs. The mix is multitracked and I attempted to put it together in a way that would please people who appreciate the technical side of mixing, as well as those that just want to hear some great tunes. Whether you’re an old school hip-hop head or you just want a history lesson in how hip-hop sounded when it was first available on wax, there’s something for you to enjoy here!
